چکیده

Background: Ataxia-telangiectasia (AT) is an autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorder caused by variants of ATM (ataxia telangiectasia mutated) gene. These patients develop metabolic changes over time. We aimed to assess the correlation between neurological features, nutritional status, and in AT patients. Methods: Cross-sectional study with prospective data from 25 aged 5 31 years. Results: Significant correlations were found scores on International Cooperative Ataxia Rating Scale (ICARS) age (r = 0.748; p < 0.001), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) 0.743; insulin levels 0.520; 0.016) Homeostasis Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) index 0.585; 0.005) as well (SARA) 0.704; GGT 0.701; 0.706; 0.001) HOMA-IR 0.764; 0.001).Conclusions: The relevant severity ataxia disease progression such liver function impairment resistance reinforce importance monitoring evaluate status these patients.

The relationship between nutritional status, vitamin A and zinc levels and oxidative stress in patients with ataxia-telangiectasia.

BACKGROUND Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) is a rare and degenerative disease that leads to varying degrees of immunodeficiency, oxidative stress, and malnutrition. Vitamin A and zinc are essential for immune function and antioxidant defence. OBJECTIVE To compare levels of retinol, beta carotene, and zinc in patients with ataxia-telangiectasia and healthy controls. METHODS We performed a cross-...

Correlation between Hyponatremia and High Risk Clinical and Echocardiographic Features in Patients with Acute Heat Failure

Background and purpose: Heart failure (HF) is characterized by decreased ability of the heart to provide sufficient blood flow or fill with the blood. Hyponatremia is the most commonly seen electrolyte abnormality in patients with heart failure that is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between hyponatremia and high risk clinic...

Betamethasone and improvement of neurological symptoms in ataxia-telangiectasia.

BACKGROUND To our knowledge, there have been no reports on the control of central nervous system symptoms in patients with ataxia-telangiectasia. OBJECTIVE To preliminarily determine the effectiveness of corticosteroid therapy on the central nervous system symptoms of a child with ataxia-telangiectasia in whom neurological signs improved when, occasionally, he was given betamethasone to treat...

Ataxia telangiectasia (AT) is a progressive multisystem disorder caused by mutations in the AT-mutated (ATM) gene. AT is a neurodegenerative disease primarily characterized by cerebellar degeneration in children leading to motor impairment. The disease progresses with other clinical manifestations including oculocutaneous telangiectasia, immune disorders, increased susceptibly to cancer and res...
